Kingdom Come: The Great Debate

Some interesting conversations are being had from last Saturday’s Kingdom Come article published by the Waikato Times…

Tuku says Bunny Tumai had no right to say anything to the media. Yes Tuku; this will allow you to ‘cover’ all your crap doings in the past 18 months or so. Makes you also wonder what people – namely, the bulk of Tainui tribe – do when they are not being listened to. Also that Bunny Tumai is not a kaumatua of consequence; come to Horahora Tuku; our Kingi re-union was run by Bunny Tumai as shown on TV. How dare you slander our kaumatua with your politicised PROPOGANDA! My kaumatua has put his mana, tribal standing, and reputation on the line for OUR TRIBE to go forward Tuku; you know it, as your tactic is to further entrench our kaumatuas voices in your Tribal Ostracision. I believe you are a coward and are running our tribe into ruin for your personal gain Tuku. Get out Tuku, get out.

i watched the debate between Tania Martin and Tuku Morgan. Honestly my initial response to both of them …. Tania Martin … Talked incessantly in a monotone voice ….she gave dates, times, making the links between the incidents and trucked out her chronology … Nō reira … Her monotone repetitive droning voice, lack lustre personality and unappealing visage jez lost me @ 10th Bite ….!! She had the Facts but just didn’t succeed in gaining my empathy. Every question Julian Wilcox asked her she would respond with the same repeatative monotone chronology. As for Tuku Morgan – Well I was a supporter of Tuku until that interview. The camera eye picked up the nervous, unsettled, blustering arrogance not only in the ahuatanga of his korero but also the korero itself. Sori Tuku but you lost me @ 1st Bite! His opening comment " Well its like this ….Te Kauhanganui is like Parliament. Tania Martin is Lockwood Smith. Te Arataura is the Cabinet. And i am like John Key – The Prime Minister!!!! Aueeee … u lost me there Bro …. from then on …everything went downhill for Tuku – his comments didn’t have the ring of truth, he seemed to flounder right from the beginning – searching for words, and stuttering and stammering at times. So on the whole – neither Tania nor Tuku came up tops in my whakaaro!!

Mrs Martin and T Morgan – it was not a debate. Maori TV screened two separate interviews. You could tell when the bits were edited. So it is not fair on Mrs Martin that you say she was monotone and the other insults. T Morgan well he kept lying – he was searching his brain for anything – and his claim to fame as being the prime minister – that did it for our whanau – He will not get our vote. He keeps spending our money like it was his. Mrs Martin has been dragged into courts by Morgan and he is despearate to get rid of her with all these courts cases. I read where he is trying to baknrupt her. That is not very good tuku. and the ‘kiing of huntly – how come he and his whanau have all these flash cars and dark suits – those guys look like thugs. – and we heard korotangi crashed a tribal car – and we have to paid for it. Mr zTumai did not deserve the crappy words that morgan spoke. he must say sorry to mr tumai and to mr meto.

@ Ngatai Huata "Her monotone repetitive droning voice, lack lustre personality and unappealing visage jez lost me @ 10th Bite"

Well gee …. if only she had back up dancers while singing a duet with Dennis Marsh, her side of the story might have held your attention. I mean it’s not a popularity contest lovely, and Tuku comparing himself to PM, got a big head much? Do Tainui as a whole feel comfortable with this guy running the show? Its obvious its for personal gain. I feel a "Get Rid of Tuku" hikoi coming on.

@ Kevin…taupatupatu within the context of an issue or kaupapa can be empowering and informative, especially when it involves unresolved issues with the potential to stagnate tribal advancement.

And once again Mr Morgan shows his arrogance. To say that Meto and Tumai are kaumātua of little significance is disgraceful. Who made him the be all and end all of characterising who are kaumātua?

Come on Tainui. Maranga ake ai!!!

Heyyyy …. @ all those back biting comments …. hahaha …wat I watched and heard on the debate – well this is my view – so don’t get shitty cos my view isn’t yours!! You deliberately got my korero wrong … my point was that the credibility of Tania Martin’s korero was LOST becos of her lack-lustre monotone, dirgey way of expressing herself. Her korero didn’t have the ring of truth in it – more like a machine repeating propaganda.

Tena koe Ngatai, kei te mihi atu koe. TKI hui held last week resolved and won to have Tuku removed as chair of Te Arataura because of his insolent, unprofessional, and disreputable behaviour towards Waikato-Tainui, his employers TKI and especially toward the TKI chair where he has made public personal attacks on herself, her whanau and her marae. That was totally out of order especially for a person who believes himself to be the ONLY person in Waikato-Tainui capable of representing us at international, govt, iwi and local level. He has acted in this manner consistently since returning to Waikato-Tainui (only a few yrs ago) He made it personal by attacking her in person and on TV, when in fact she was and always has been acting in her capacity as chair of TKI. and as directed by TKI. Its disappointing that you chose to point out her TV interview inexperience. That may be so on TV but you really should observe her in the ‘house’ when she is chairing the TKI hui, thats where you see the real Tania Martin, professional, articulate, fair and respectful and more importantly knowledgable of the constitution that governs TKI and its sub-committees (TeA) and as far as I am concerned thats where it matters most which is more than I an say for Tuku and his ex TeA colleagues.

Tuku and Tania both have to go!But I must say, even tho hes an egotistical person, Tuku’s done more than Tania has. I’ve never benefited much from Tainui’s wealth except what our Ngati Haua marae’s get (but we should, cos some of our lands was swallowed up in Tainui’s claim). Mystified how that happened. And now, Ngati Haua is a hapuu of Waikato not a Iwi. That’s Bullsh$t!!
Anyway, this is what happens when money comes into the equation, tikanga goes out the window and ego’s to come to the fore (including Tania Martin).
Now, about the King, he is King, he is the legacy of what our tupuna institued in 1858 to whakakotahi our people. He is the descendant of the first Maori King Potatau. Like it or loathe it he is the Rangatira.
Ngatai, good on you for saying what you think.

@ Ngati Haua Uri – you talk about Tuku’s achievements as if he achieved them himself, for goodness sake kare, how can you be so naive as to buy into that. What’s been achieved to date was done by others paid by the tribe to do so. Tuku has this nasty habit of taking the credit for other people’s good works. Re. Tania’s achievements, since taking the role of Te Kauhanganui chair, Tania has enabled members to speak without fear or bullying from Te A as well as educated members on the rules of TKI thus empowering them to make better decisions on behalf of the Iwi, which is more than can be said about previous koretake chairs. Her legacy however, will be that she was not afraid to seek accountability and transparency from Te Arataura who for too long did as they pleased with our money without direction or accountability to Te Kauhanganui/Iwi. Interesting to see the many men scarmbling to get back into power since Tania started cleaning up their crap.

If Maori arrived in waka, then surely they, too are simply immigrants to NZ They were not the first people to be here at all.
They need to be recompensing Mori Ori for stealing the land from them .
