Hopuhopu Latest

Representatives from 62 marae were in attendance at today’s meeting. The results:

The Chairperson of Te Kauhanganui:

  • Tania Martin

New executive committee:

  • Hemi Rau
  • Marae Tukere
  • Tom Roa
  • Tipa Mahuta
  • Kingi Porima
  • Sonny Wilson
  • Rahui Papa
  • Paki Rawiri
  • Rukumoana Schaafhousen

There was a deadlock for the last executive place. Te Kauhanganui couldn’t decide between Tuku or Huhana Marshall. Despite Tuku’s multi-million dollar ripoff he still got votes and he missed every position until the very last (he misses out).

Who will the Maori king choose as his representative? Will Miller remain? There was a rumor going round that if Tuku didn’t make the cut, that Tuku would attempt to convince the king to give him Miller’s seat on the executive.

What a shame. As a casual observer of tribal affairs this is very disappointing. Same old same old (with the exception of Tom who actually displayed integrity).

Where is the new and young talent? Were the young talent block voted out by a core group of chronies? Unfortunately I’m not hopeful for this lot to generate the new ideas and perspectives we need to move things along. I hope I’m proved wrong. I will most certainly be asking my Marae representatives to “please explain?”.

    Adam.

p.s. with the exception of one or two people, this group appears to be more managerial than visionary. We perhaps needed more of the latter. It appears an opportunity to affect change has gone begging.

I think the new group gives us a good balance. At this point, what the tribe requires is consolidation and stability for at least 18 months, till trust and confidence has been regained. It has been such a tumultuous 12 months that order needs to be restored to the house. It will be interesting who the chair will be, and if this will be decided before the final position is filled. A big ups to 50% of TKH. As for the other 50%, what further proof do you need that Tuku’s interests are not for the tribe?

Good to see Tania is on there. She wasn’t there when I originally posted. Thats great news.

Some may see my view as pessimist yet the fact is it seems there are a few names on that list who have been on Te Arataura before and have delivered mediocre results that have lead to the current position of the tribe. The evidence speaks for itself.

Lets hope the newer faces on TA can make bigger contributions to bring about a better result.

My concern is if this new top executives ..(one im not keen to see back) can not only fix the financial over spend as stated..but our pohara member’s who have no mahi and whare for their tamariki..but left to depend on this pakeha kawana who are selling us(Huntly Power Station) out and cutting benefits leaving our member’s opppressed..much mahi for them to awhi our member’s….if they can meet the needs then im all for them..Kia Ora Whanau..

It will be a shame to lose the current KA rep, Greg Miller brings a wide range of skills and experiences to the role furthermore, has also displayed a professional attitude and manner when faced with challenging situations.

In 1835 at Kawhia Kenehuru daughter of chief Te Tuhi O Terangi of Ngai Mahuta and neice of King Te Wherowhero married Edward Meurant whos parents fled France to escape persecution of Huguenotes. And this couple had kids. A great great great grandson was second in command Red Squad and later was inspector of police then later a Member of Parliament for 9 years with Bachelors and Masters university degrees and is now a self made businesman in the Middel East and East Europe with no jobs for the boys from his old National cronies. A no nonsense man who defended Maori in articles recently written “Deep in the Forest” (2007- on goggle) and “When good cops go bad” North & South Magazine October 2012. Maybe time we got this due to sort out where goes our money and keep Tuku under control

Meurant is the guy who bashed human rights protesters in the 80’s. And we’ve got Clint Rickards too. Ewww
