Te Arataura Latest

If your last name is three letters long and begins with an ‘R’, today you might be quite chuffed… Tom Roa is confirmed as the chairman and Hemi Rau is named as the vice-chair for Te Arataura.

After a long day at Hopuhopu, Te Kauhanganui was unable to reach a consensus on who should fill the vacant 11th Te Arataura seat. What a relief, we even thought that they might be dumb enough to vote Tuku back in although he did get many votes.

The new executive committee aka Te Arataura still has members of the old guard in it, Rukumoana, Kingi, Sonny & Rahui, including Greg Miller were the same people fully aware of and supportive of Tuku’s actions, they did nothing to stop him and even enjoyed playing along as long as they were reaping the benefits, they didnt give a stuff if the tribe were missing out. They were and still are more concerned about lining their own pockets at the tribes expense. They gave up their day jobs because they were generously paying themselves more than they were entitled to without Te Kauhanganui permission. In the end the tribe lost out by having their grants slashed. The worst part is that Parekawhia McLean happily supported Te Arataura’s greed and even got some extra cash for herself by way of special projects, i.e. Whanau Ora being one, sadly, all of this was endorsed by the King who through Parekawhia, Tuku & Greg had unfettered access to the tribal funds over and above his allocated budget. The biggest concern now is Tom Roa, who it seems has been asked to keep Parekawhia in office so that the King can continue to have unfettered access to our tribal purse. So much for the moemoea of our tupuna in advancing our reo, our tikanga, and improving our lot, YEAH RIGHT.
